What do you specialize in treating?
My professional experience has been working with teens and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, sexuality, self injury, OCD, and other behavioral health problems. Ultimately my work is about removing obstacles to an individual becoming the best version of themselves.
Why should I come see you?
Speaking from experience, I know it can be a long road before contacting a therapist. Helping people feel validated, heard, and encouraged is what I strive to do professionally.
If you or someone you know is struggling with anxiety, depression, or other behavioral health concerns, or just needs some encouragement, consider setting up a 15 minute consultation and we will see if I can be a good fit.
What form does your counseling take?
I meet with people individually or as part of family therapy. Sessions can be over video conferencing or in person. Currently my office availability is limited to Tuesdays, Fridays, and weekends.
If you meet with me, you should hopefully walk away from each meeting with clarity, confidence, and a sense of validation. I will alway conceptualize your problems as distinct from you and try to bring the focus on how they impact your life goals and relationships. We will develop a plan together that pulls from narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, and attachment based family therapy.
How do you evaluate my issues and develop a treatment plan?
To facilitate the process of conceptualizing your concerns and needs, I ask people to complete and submit this evaluation form.
The effectiveness of our work together will be brought up regularly. This is a question for both you and I to answer in an honest and genuine fashion. I may ask that we complete additional forms to mark progress depending on what we both see as the finish line for you.
I value the utility of clinical terminology and symptoms, but pay closer attention to your experience than a label.
Can I leave while my child is in session?
For in person sessions with your child (16 years and younger), you or another adult caregiver will need to remain at the office setting for the session.
How do I get in touch with you between sessions?
Email is best toddshirleycounseling@proton.me.
